All major decisions are taken collectively by the executive committee. a brief history……..1972-1980.In 1972 the property situated at 156 Wednesbury Road, Walsall, was purchased by a group of local brothers , for use as a Masjid and Maktab (evening classes). This was given the name “ Islamic Cultural Society.” 156 Wednesbury Road was a terraced house situated in a residential area, consisting of 4 rooms on 3 floors. The local brothers frequenting the Masjid for Jummah prayers numbered between 50 to 60. Furthermore, a class was initiated to teach local children Nazira and Hifz-e-Quran. (Totalling 30 students). 1980-1990.Another Hifz class was formed in 1981 to cater for the increased demand due to the excellent reputation the Masjid had acquired over the years . Student numbers increased to about 60. However people attending regular prayers numbered a lowly 10-15 and Jummah prayer 50-60. It is in this period that the first graduates of the Hifz class began to emerge. 1990-1998.
Renovation work was carried out on the premises to modernize the Masjid and classrooms. This included installation of Ablution facilities and extending the prayer hall. 1998-PRESENT.Sheikh Muhammad Luqman , a local Aalim, who studied at Anjuman Isha’at-e-islam, Dewsbury, and graduated from Nusrat ul Uloom , Gujranwala, Pakistan, was approached by the local brothers to head the activities of the Masjid. Sheikh Luqman is the former principal of the Islamic Institute of Nottinghamshire (founder the late Sheikh Muhammad Kamal.) As Principal of the aforementioned Darul Uloom for boys, Sheikh played a major role in its rise and success. However due to the school relocating to Manchester, Sheikh found it unpractical to relocate a second time. He had previously left his home town to occupy his post in Nottinghamshire. On his return to Walsall Sheikh assembled a team of young , enthusiastic Ulemaa and professionals to assist him in the major transformation that was to take place. The Islamic Cultural Society then became the ABU BAKR TRUST; ( named after the great Sahabi and first Caliph of Islam, Sayyidina Abu Bakr Siddiq Ra.)
Alhamdulillah, under the stewardship Sheikh Muhammad Luqman, in only a couple of years the number of students increased from 50 in 1999 to over 1200 in 2009, whilst the number of people attending prayers also increased from around 75 to over 800 in the same period.
